Salesforce Expands AI Adoption At Massive Scale
Salesforce consumed more than 12 trillion artificial intelligence tokens last year as the global software giant rapidly expanded AI-driven operations and agentic automation across its business ecosystem.
Despite the enormous scale of AI usage, the company believes artificial intelligence is unlikely to completely replace human workers. According to Vala Afshar, AI should be viewed as a productivity and efficiency tool rather than a direct substitute for employees.
Afshar stated that Salesforce’s total AI token usage recorded last year could potentially be exceeded within just the first two months of this year, highlighting the explosive pace at which enterprise AI adoption is accelerating globally.
AI Agents Are Replacing Repetitive Workflows
Salesforce has been aggressively integrating AI agents into its operations to automate repetitive business tasks, improve customer interactions and streamline internal workflows.
According to Afshar, the company recently moved around 3,000 employees into its sales function. However, these were not external hires. Instead, Salesforce reassigned existing employees from departments where tasks involved repetitive and low-impact work that AI agents are now capable of handling.
The move reflects a broader trend across the global technology industry, where companies are increasingly using artificial intelligence to augment human productivity instead of fully replacing jobs.
Afshar emphasized that AI systems still require human creativity, judgment and strategic oversight, especially for customer facing and decision making roles.
Enterprise AI Competition Intensifies
The rapid rise in Salesforce’s AI token consumption also underlines the growing importance of generative AI across enterprise software platforms. AI tokens are essentially the units used by large language models to process instructions, generate responses and automate workflows.
Technology companies worldwide are now racing to integrate AI into core business operations including customer support, sales, software engineering and data analytics.
Salesforce has emerged as one of the leading enterprise software companies pushing AI-powered automation tools for businesses. The company has been investing heavily in AI-driven CRM solutions and intelligent digital assistants capable of handling increasingly complex tasks.
AI Job Debate Continues Across Global Tech Industry
The comments from Salesforce come at a time when artificial intelligence continues to spark global concerns around workforce disruption and job displacement.
Several companies have already announced layoffs and restructuring initiatives linked to automation and AI adoption. However, many technology leaders argue that AI will transform the nature of work rather than completely eliminate human roles.
Industry experts believe companies that successfully combine AI adoption with workforce reskilling and employee redeployment strategies are likely to benefit the most from the next phase of technological transformation.
For Salesforce, the current strategy appears focused on using AI to remove repetitive operational burdens while enabling employees to concentrate on higher value, strategic and relationship driven work.
