Maruti Suzuki To Set Up Advanced Manufacturing Labs At 5 Gujarat ITIs

Initiative Aims To Build Future-Ready Automotive Workforce In Gujarat

India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), has announced plans to establish Advanced Manufacturing Labs (AMLs) at five Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Gujarat to strengthen industry-ready skill development and support the growing demand for skilled talent in the automotive sector.

The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Directorate of Employment and Training (DET), Government of Gujarat, to set up the facilities at ITIs located in Palanpur, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Godhra, and Dahod.

The initiative is part of Maruti Suzuki’s broader strategy to bridge the gap between classroom education and modern manufacturing requirements while preparing students for careers in the rapidly evolving automotive industry.

Focus On Industry-Oriented Skill Development

According to Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki, the Advanced Manufacturing Labs will provide students with hands-on exposure to modern manufacturing technologies and equipment.

“Through Advanced Manufacturing Labs, we are equipping students with experiential learning and confidence in modern equipment, nurturing professionals who can seamlessly integrate into the evolving automotive ecosystem,” Bharti said.

He added that the company’s manufacturing expansion plans in Gujarat will create new industrial ecosystems that require a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting future industry demands.

Supporting Gujarat’s Manufacturing Growth

Maruti Suzuki currently operates major manufacturing facilities in Gujarat and continues to expand its production capabilities in the state. As new facilities and supplier networks emerge, the need for trained technicians and manufacturing professionals is expected to increase significantly.

The company believes that the new labs will help create a pipeline of skilled workers who can contribute to the automotive and manufacturing sectors from day one.

Stuti Charan, IAS, Director of DET, Government of Gujarat, said the collaboration would strengthen industry-academia integration and improve employability among students.

“By setting up Advanced Manufacturing Labs in Gujarat’s ITIs, Maruti Suzuki is bridging the gap between classroom learning and industry requirements,” she said.

Expanding Nationwide Skill Development Efforts

Maruti Suzuki has been actively supporting technical education and vocational training across India. The company currently supports 31 ITIs in manufacturing-related trades and has established 18 Advanced Manufacturing Labs nationwide.

With the addition of five new facilities in Gujarat, Maruti Suzuki’s AML network will expand to 23 labs across seven states and union territories, including Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Chandigarh.

The expansion reflects the company’s continued investment in workforce development as India’s automotive industry undergoes technological transformation and manufacturing modernization.
