Can the New Brezza Drive Maruti Suzuki’s SUV Growth in FY27?
Maruti Suzuki India is aiming for a 25–30% year-on-year growth in its sport utility vehicle (SUV) sales during FY27, driven by the launch of the refreshed Brezza, recently introduced models, and increased production capacity at its Kharkhoda manufacturing facility.
The country’s largest carmaker sold over 5.22 lakh SUVs in FY26. Achieving its growth target would take annual SUV sales to approximately 6.53 lakh–6.79 lakh units in FY27.
The company is also betting on expanded manufacturing capacity and a stronger product portfolio to increase its share in India’s fast-growing SUV market.
Maruti Bets on Brezza and Victoris for Growth
Speaking about the company’s outlook, Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer (Marketing & Sales) at Maruti Suzuki India, said the SUV segment is expected to deliver strong growth this financial year.
According to Banerjee, the growth will not depend solely on the newly launched Brezza but also on the company’s broader SUV portfolio, including the Victoris.
He added that Maruti expects SUV sales to grow by 25–30%, supported by higher production and improved product availability.
SUVs have become an increasingly important part of Maruti Suzuki’s business. Their contribution to the company’s total sales increased from 12% in FY23 to around 30% in the first quarter of FY27.
The automaker’s share of India’s SUV market also crossed 20% during the June quarter, reflecting its growing presence in the segment.
New Brezza Launched with Expanded Engine Options
On Friday, Maruti Suzuki officially launched the new Brezza, offering customers a wider range of powertrain choices.
The refreshed compact SUV is available with:
- 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine
- 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine
- S-CNG variant
The company has introduced the SUV at an introductory starting price of ₹7.30 lakh (ex-showroom).
Interestingly, the new Brezza is ₹86,000 cheaper than the outgoing pre-facelift version, which had a starting price of ₹8.26 lakh.
Competes with Leading Compact SUVs
The refreshed Brezza enters one of India’s most competitive automobile segments.
Its key rivals include:
- Tata Nexon – ₹7.39 lakh
- Kia Sonet – ₹7.41 lakh
- Skoda Kylaq – ₹7.59 lakh
- Mahindra XUV 3XO – ₹7.79 lakh
- Hyundai Venue – ₹8 lakh
However, it remains priced above the entry-level offerings from:
- Nissan Magnite – ₹5.65 lakh
- Renault Kiger – ₹5.81 lakh
Maruti expects the newly introduced turbo-petrol variant to attract significant customer interest, although the final demand mix will vary across different markets.
Kharkhoda Plant to Play a Key Role
Production capacity will be a major factor in achieving the company’s ambitious SUV sales target.
Maruti Suzuki has shifted Brezza production entirely to its Kharkhoda plant, which also manufactures the Victoris.
The company commissioned the second 2.5 lakh-unit production line at Kharkhoda in May, taking the facility’s annual capacity to 5 lakh vehicles.
Another 2.5 lakh-unit plant is expected to become operational during FY27, with Maruti’s long-term objective of expanding Kharkhoda’s production capacity to 10 lakh units annually.
Banerjee noted that production planning between the Brezza and Victoris will depend on market demand and component availability.
Strong Demand Continues for Brezza
The Brezza remains one of Maruti Suzuki’s most successful compact SUVs.
The model has already crossed 1.4 million customers since its launch, making it one of the company’s flagship products in the SUV category.
Banerjee also dismissed suggestions that SUVs would eventually replace hatchbacks in India.
According to him, different customer preferences will ensure that multiple vehicle body styles continue to coexist.
He pointed out that models such as the Baleno continue to enjoy strong demand and a loyal customer base despite the rapid growth of SUVs.
Production Constraints Hurt Previous Sales
Maruti Suzuki also revealed that supply limitations affected its performance during the previous financial year.
Banerjee estimated the company may have lost nearly 1 lakh vehicle sales in the fourth quarter of FY26 because production could not keep pace with demand.
The subsequent improvement in market share during Q1 FY27 was largely driven by better vehicle availability following the production ramp-up at the Kharkhoda facility.
With additional manufacturing capacity now coming online, the company expects to reduce supply constraints and better meet customer demand throughout FY27.
What’s Next?
Maruti Suzuki is entering FY27 with an aggressive growth strategy focused on strengthening its SUV portfolio. The launch of the refreshed Brezza, expansion of the Kharkhoda manufacturing facility, and increasing contribution from models like Victoris are expected to support the company’s target of 25–30% SUV sales growth.
As competition intensifies in India’s compact SUV segment, Maruti’s ability to balance production, meet rising demand, and maintain competitive pricing will be crucial in sustaining its market leadership.
