How Does Ashneer Grover’s New Fintech Platform Help Employees Access Loans?

Ashneer Grover, former Managing Director and co-founder of BharatPe, has launched Fund My Staff, a new fintech platform that enables employers to help their employees access loans by acting as guarantors.

Grover announced the launch on LinkedIn, positioning the platform as a solution for salaried employees who may struggle to secure credit due to limited or no credit history. By leveraging an employer’s guarantee, the platform aims to improve access to formal lending while simplifying the loan approval process.

Developed by Third Unicorn, Grover’s venture founded after his exit from BharatPe, Fund My Staff expands the company’s portfolio of fintech products focused on improving access to financial services.

How Does Fund My Staff Work?

Fund My Staff is designed to connect employers, employees, and regulated lending institutions through a digital platform.

According to the platform’s website, employers can:

  • Onboard employees onto the platform.
  • Set eligible loan limits.
  • Review loan applications.
  • Approve requests by acting as guarantors.

Once the employer approves the request, the loan is processed by a lending partner and disbursed directly to the employee. The borrower then repays the loan through monthly Equated Monthly Instalments (EMIs) over the selected tenure.

Employees can also initiate the loan request themselves by submitting an application to their employer through the platform. The process moves forward only after employer approval.

Employers Act as Guarantors, Not Lenders

A key feature of the platform is that employers do not finance the loans.

Instead, they simply act as guarantors, giving lenders greater confidence in approving loans for employees who may otherwise have limited borrowing options.

The employee receives the loan amount directly from the lending institution and remains responsible for repaying the borrowed funds through scheduled EMIs.

This model allows companies to offer an additional employee benefit without deploying their own capital.

Operates Under RBI Digital Lending Framework

Fund My Staff states that it functions as a Lending Service Provider (LSP) in accordance with the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) digital lending guidelines.

The platform does not lend directly. Instead, loans are originated, sanctioned, and disbursed by RBI-registered lending partners.

The website currently lists Ash Grove Capital Private Limited, an RBI-registered Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC), as its lending partner.

By operating within the RBI’s regulatory framework, the platform aims to provide a compliant and transparent digital lending experience.

Another Bet by Third Unicorn

Fund My Staff has been developed by Third Unicorn, the Delhi-based startup founded by Ashneer Grover and Aseem Ghavri following Grover’s departure from BharatPe.

The venture has launched multiple fintech products over the past two years, including:

  • ZeroPe, introduced in 2024, a fintech platform focused on financing medical expenses.
  • CrickPe, a fantasy cricket platform that ceased operations in February last year.

With Fund My Staff, Third Unicorn is now targeting employer-backed lending as a new category within India’s growing fintech ecosystem.

Why Employer-Backed Lending Could Gain Traction

Access to formal credit remains a challenge for many salaried workers, particularly first-time borrowers and employees with limited credit histories.

Employer-backed lending offers an alternative by using the employer’s guarantee to reduce lending risk, potentially enabling quicker approvals and better borrowing terms.

For businesses, the model can also serve as an employee welfare initiative, helping improve financial well-being without requiring the employer to fund the loans directly.

As digital lending continues to evolve under RBI regulations, platforms such as Fund My Staff could create new opportunities in workplace financial services.

What’s Next for Fund My Staff?

With the launch of Fund My Staff, Ashneer Grover is expanding Third Unicorn’s presence in India’s fintech sector by focusing on employer-assisted credit.

The platform seeks to bridge the financing gap for employees while giving employers a structured way to support their workforce through regulated lending. As adoption grows, its success will depend on employer participation, lending partnerships, and the platform’s ability to deliver responsible, compliant credit solutions in a competitive digital lending market.
