Ferrari has officially unveiled the ‘Luce’, its first fully electric vehicle, marking a major turning point in the company’s history as it enters the high-performance EV segment.

The luxury automaker revealed the model in Rome on May 25, describing the launch as the beginning of “a new chapter” for the iconic Italian brand.

Ferrari said the Luce is not intended to simply replace traditional petrol-powered sports cars, but instead represents an entirely new category combining performance, luxury, practicality and advanced technology.

Industry observers believe the launch is significant because several luxury automakers globally have recently slowed or reconsidered their electric vehicle ambitions amid weakening demand for premium EVs.

The Luce is Ferrari’s first-ever five-seater production EV and only the second four-door vehicle in the company’s history after the Ferrari Purosangue.

The car was developed in collaboration with LoveFrom, the design collective founded by former Apple design chief Jony Ive and designer Marc Newson.

Ferrari said the Luce can achieve a top speed of 310 kmph and accelerate from 0–100 kmph in around 2.5 seconds.

The EV uses four electric motors, one positioned at each wheel, producing more than 1,000 horsepower in Boost mode.

The vehicle is built on an 800V architecture and includes a 122 kWh battery pack capable of delivering more than 500 km of claimed driving range along with 350 kW fast-charging support.

Instead of artificial engine sounds, Ferrari developed an accelerometer-based audio system that captures vibrations from electric motors and channels refined acoustic feedback into the cabin.
